Language the fulcrum Language the pivot Language the hinge
Language the fulcrum
Language the pivot
Language the hinge
While there is absolutely no denying that all subjects are important for the flowering of cognitive abilities, Language must be given the status of Primus Inter Pares, (first among equals).
Lest I should be accused of bias, being a language teacher myself, let me clarify and substantiate my claim with facts.
Since language is the medium of instruction, it represents the gateway to learning.
Students have to have language competence first before they can comprehend the subject matter and be able to express and articulate the answers that will determine their actual worth.
Wherein the paramount importance of acquiring the Listening Reading Writing and Speaking skills.
Listening and Reading to sift, interpret and differentiate facts and instructions and Writing/Speaking to be in a position to recall the concepts, where and when it matters.
A language teacher thus occupies a vantage position in instilling the reading habit and making all out efforts to get students to listen, speak and write well.
The rest will follow. The Domino effect will ensue.
