National Girl Child Day
“A friend, a sister, a wife, a mother, a daughter...When you kill one girl child, you kill the entire generation.” The National Girl Child Day is celebrated in India every year on January 24th. It was initiated in 2008 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development and the government of India, in order to spread public awareness about inequities that girls face in Indian society.
To mark this significant day, Sapphire International School conducted a special Online Assembly on the 24th of January 2022.
The programme commenced with a sincere prayer led by Jiya of Grade 6. Kashishsen of Grade 5 shared an inspiring thought for the day, while Aparajita of Grade 6 shared a quote of Swami Vivekananda on girl child.
Shazma of Grade 9 expounded the objectives of celebrating the National Girl Child Day which are as follows.
• Highlight the inequalities faced by girls in the country.
• Promote awareness about the rights of a girl child.
• Generate awareness on importance of girl education, health and nutrition.
Pritha of Grade 5 recited a motivating poem to emphasize the importance of girls in a family.
Aashi and Sanskriti Pal of Grade 8 and Shazma of grade 9 shared a PowerPoint presentation followed by a video on Girls’ achievements.
Prakhar of Grade 5 elucidated the various schemes launched by the government for the girl child.
To further encourage the importance of girls, Ms Abha Sudhanshu, one of the parents recited a self composed overwhelming and heart touching poem.
The programme concluded with the address by the Academic coordinator, Mr Ajay Chauhan who said that the society should be sensitized regarding this issue. It is our genuine responsibility to take care of our girls and women as they are the medium for the very existence of homosapiens on the earth. He also stressed the need for a change in attitudes and mindsets, rather than bringing into force new legislation, to improve the lot of the girl child.
